Update 19th Sept 2008
Hi Hooverheads,
You may have noticed that it's been pretty quiet over the last few weeks in Hooverland so I thought I'd give you a quick update of whats going on.
Firstly you'll be glad to know we've all had our hols, Doug been back over Maryland way, Vicky and Dave went backpacking around Europe
We are currently in the middle of redesigning our website, look out for the new pages, personal biographies and other new features coming very soon
We've been speaking to different radio stations to get Hoover Dams some more airplay and hopefully you'll be hearing some more hoover tracks on air very soon (Look in our comments for Record Finder for the latest news)
We've been organising more gigs, look out for news on both our sites (News of a Hull date coming very soon)
Most importantly of all we've been working on October's track for Hoover Dams Day and you're in for a real treat this month with a brand new track in a slightly different style than maybe you have been used to, its called - Turn the Beat Up and I know that Rexx of Rexx Rocks Podcasts will appreciated its 50's influences

The Amazing Doug!
Hoover Dams are greatly excited to announce The Amazing Doug as the new Dams lead guitarist.
The Amazing Doug, is currently playing around West Yorkshire with his solo show and more recently has been playing with Atlanta, Georgia band The Cogburns
Doug is a songwriter, a singer, and sometimes guitar and mandolin player. He has performed in one way or another all over the US as well as parts of Europe and the UK. One of his old band-mates commented, after seeing Doug in an acoustic setting, that he really could sing. The recordings are a couple years old, and a couple of these songs are some of the best from Doug. There have been other bands that Doug has played with, or sang for. Nekkid, and the Cogburns are Doug's most recent. Doug sang and played guitar for Nekkid, and most recently played guitar and helped with backing vocals for the Cogburns
The new Hoover Dam song released on August 1st will be the first to feature Doug on guitar. Keep checking back for live dates, more to be added soon
Hoover Dams have signed upto new download site www.aralie.com
The concept of this site is that people can pay what they believe the music is worth, we have one track available for download 'Beauty Queen' and the recommended amount to pay per track is $1
The royalties per track means that the artist gets 85% of what you pay and a further 1% is also donated directly to charity. You can of course also pay nothing and get the track for free. Its up to you!
If you visit www.aralie.com now you can also find a feature on the Hoover Dams (if not a slightly bizarre feature to be fair)
Happy downloading

On the whole I didn't send many out for review this time but its good to get positive feedback. We're pretty pleased with this anyway -
Kevin gave it a 4 out of 5 by the way, which is good for the site as well
Hoover Dams: Fight Night By Kevin Richardson
Having been around since 2005 and being quite big on the Bradford scene, Hoover Dams were a band I'd heard of, but this was my first time hearing their music. And when the first song 'Sent From Hell' kicked in, I was quite impressed. A lot of the times when listening to EPs from up and coming bands, they can sound overproduced and the sound is lost in the mixing, but Hoover Dams adopt a very lo-fi approach and the resulting sound is very grungy. 'Sent From Hell' sounds like an early Kings Of Leon track. Catchy guitar riffs and duelling vocals are held together by the drums, which are relentless, and the first song is an absolute blast.
'Fight Night' continues this relentlessness, with the vocals standing out, almost shouting. There's almost a feel of carelessness about the track, which adds to the lo-fi effect, although don't mistake this for me saying the sound is lazy. It takes real skill to create this kind of sound and 'Fight Night' is 1:47 of sheer exhilaration. Very old school sound that feels like it's being played right in front of you as you listen to it. 'Pontious Pilate' starts somewhat surprisingly with what sounds like an organ. And it really adds a lot to the sound throughout the song. This song is a lot calmer and there doesn't seem the same desire to rush through the song, as with the previous two, and it has a much wider sound. It's now dawning on me who they sound like: the lo-fi sound can be compared to the Black Lips. The vocals also sound very similar to Black Lips, particularly in this song and it is good to hear something different like this.
Final song 'I Live On The Sun' expands further on the more expansive sound of the last song. The vocals are punchy again, with haunting vocals and keyboards underneath, and this song really takes its time to build up the atmosphere. Very atmospheric but retaining the lo-fi sound that made the first couple of tracks so successful. All four tracks sound as if they were made to be played live in front of packed crowds, but they do make the recorded transition very well and don't seem to lose any of the edge which can so often happen. If you like it lo-fi and dirty, you'll find a lot to enjoy with Hoover Dams.

It just amazes me why we have so many Bands just waiting in the wings to be discovered,to be recognised, and to be offered just rewards for all work done that has brought them to the level they are at right now. Im gonna tell you about at Band that have reached that level and are worthy of being in that group of musicians and performers I describe as accomplished,
Guys listen to the HOOVER DAMS. Accomplished Musicians who perform their brand of music as a work of Art. Vocals are fuckin excellent, backing vocals are totally in sync with the lead vox and play a major role in the overall impact of the Music. Bang up to date in terms of style. Two tracks you wanna hear again and again are Beauty Queen and I Live on the Sun,you will no doubt find others as well.I know this band work hard, and I say Hoover Dams 5 star rating for your stuff. You got one huge fan...You really have found the key to drawing in a Massive fan base.....Hoover Dams your stuff is pretty exhilirating.

Monday, February 25, 2008 Hoover Dams sign up with Band Republic
Hoover Dams are proud to announce that they have been selected by the Band Republic Record Label as one of the five bands ready to fight it out to release their single in May.
Read what it's all about from the guys at Band Republic themselves-
Band Republic are the worlds first online record label with the A&R department run by you it's members. That means you sign the band, you pick the single and you decide how we do it…
So you want to run a record label and you want to sign a band and release them into the charts? This is what you have to do…
pay £3.00 and become a lifetime member of band republic start voting for your favourite band pick a single use the forums and suggest band ideas buy the single when its released So you are now a band republic member. Each cycle begins with a selection of bands. Vote number one will always be who shall we sign? You continue voting and making decisions over the cycle period.
We release the single, you buy it, you get your friends to buy it, all the band republic members buy it... and waddya know, you have been part of breaking an unsigned band into the charts. How cool is that! This would not have been possible a year or so ago but with the new rule changes regarding digital downloads etc. Its now possible for us, the people, to run a record company as a collective, picking our favourite band, our favourite single and even picking where and when we release it!
Now if you have read this far and still havent joined up, its the cost of a pint! lets break some bands into the charts together.
